What's the Daniel Fast?

 


Here is a simple way to think of the Daniel Fast, you will be eating like a vegan but with more restrictions.

During this fast, we will eat from the earth. Therefore, we will eat only fruits and vegetables. Be sure that you avoid anything artificial or processed foods. You want your foods to be additive and chemical free.

Any Fruit - Fresh, frozen, dried or juiced. Examples: apples, apricots, bananas, any berries, cantaloupe, cherries, figs, grapefruit, grapes, guava, kiwi, lemons, limes, mangoes, any melon, nectarines, oranges, papayas, peaches, pears, pineapples, plums, prunes, raisins, tangelos, tangerines

Any Vegetable - Fresh, frozen, dried or juiced. Examples: artichoke, asparagus, beets, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, chili peppers, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, garlic, any greens (collards, kale, mustard, turnips), lettuce, mushrooms, okra, any onions, parsley, any peppers, potatoes, radishes, rutabagas, spinach, sprouts, squash, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, watercress, zucchini.

Where possible, avoid canned fruits and vegetables because of the additives.

Any Whole Grain: Whole wheat, brown rice, oats, barley, grits, whole-wheat pasta, whole wheat tortillas, and popcorn.

Any Nut or Seed: Sunflower seeds, cashews, pistachio, peanuts, sesame.

Any Beans: Pinto beans, split peas, lentils, black eyed peas, kidney beans, black beans, cannellini beans, white beans.

Oils: Olive, canola, grape seed, peanut, and sesame.

Beverages: Unflavored non-carbonated water (spring, distilled, tap).

Other Acceptable Food Items: tofu, soy products, veggie burgers, vinegar, natural seasonings, sea-salt, natural herbs and spices.

We consume neither sugar nor artificial sweeteners.

No breads, cakes, pies, etc—avoiding yeast, baking powder, etc.

Be sure to READ the ingredients on the labels of prepared foods and spices.

We will drink only water. (The only exception is if you drink PURE fruit and vegetable juices, made without additives. We suggest that you make your own juice.)
